Diabetes increase in older Mexican Americans
January 2, 2010 by Andy
Reports from Reuters Health suggest that the incidence of type 2 diabetes in older Mexican Americans (75 years and older) has nearly doubled since 1993. Type 2 diabetes is often brought on by poor diet and lifestyle and is linked with obesity.
A study on 1132 men from 1993/94 showed 20% were obese, and 37% had high blood pressure. 20% of those people from the 93/94 study had diabetes.
In 2004/05 these figures jumped to 29% obesity and 57% with high blood pressure with 37% having type 2 diabetes.
