Dog Diabetes is actually quite a common problem
Dogs can suffer from diabetes as well as humans. In fact some studies show that 1 in 400 dogs may be diabetic.
Symptoms of Dog Diabetes
The symptoms of dog diabetes is similar to those symptoms in humans. Symptoms develop over a series of weeks:
- Weight loss or gain
- Excessive thirst
- Excessive urination
- Increased appetite (or no appetite at all)
- Visual problems including cataracts develop
Test for dog diabetes
Dog urine can be checked using keto/glucose strips or a pet glucometer.
Obviously treating a dog with diabetes will have medical costs. However, without treatment, it could be fatal.
