Insulin coolers
February 4, 2009 by Andy
Why do you need an insulin cooler?
Insulin is a small protein hormone that needs to be kept cool. Why? Simply because at higher temperatures, proteins become denatured and change shape. Since the shape of the protein is important in its action on the body, any change in shape will reduce the effectiveness of the hormone. Therefore diabetics need to keep their insulin cool, and that means using a cooler if you go out.
There days there are lots of options, from small fridges to travel pouches that have a cooling section.
Our recommended supplier of diabetic supplies has a range in stock, usually including the following:
- Medi-Fridge IIx Micro Refrigerator
- Medi-Fridge Micro Cooler
