Gestational diabetes may increase cardiovascular risk

Gestational diabetes is diabetes mellitus that develops in a small percentage of women during pregnancy.  A recent study in Canada shows that women who get gestational diabetes are at higher risk of getting cardiovascular disease, even though blood glucose levels can return to normal after pregnancy (even though the risk was reduced in those women who did not develop diabetes after the pregnancy).

The study involved 350,000 women between the ages of 20 - 49.
